Many homes in Lake Zurich, Barrington, Mundelein, North Barrington, South Barrington, Cary, and Palatine were built with what was once considered advanced technology — large intercom systems mounted near the front door. Today, many of these systems no longer work. What remains are abandoned metal faceplates, old speaker grilles, unused buttons, and exposed mounting holes sitting next to modern doorbell cameras that were often added later in a less-than-ideal way.

It creates an unfortunate first impression — an outdated relic of past technology left behind on an otherwise beautiful home. An eyesore.

At Doorelle Works, we see opportunity where others see an old problem. In many cases, those unused intercom openings and existing wiring can become the perfect foundation for a clean, modern upgrade. Using custom-designed 3D printed parts, we can create attractive mounting solutions for today’s smart doorbell cameras while covering old holes and blending naturally with the home’s exterior.

Instead of patchwork fixes, awkward angles, or exposed cables, homeowners can have a custom-fitted installation designed specifically for their siding, brick, stone, or existing intercom footprint. Sometimes the old intercom wiring can even be reused to power the new device.

Every house is different — and that is exactly why custom solutions matter.
